Looking for some festive activities to do over the next few weeks? Here’s a few ideas of things going on around the San Fernando Valley and surrounding LA areas!

FRI 12/19/14

DTLA-Tis the season for sing-alongs. The Music Center is helping you get your jolly on. Don’t worry about not knowing the songs because they even have a lyric sheet for you.  Event is free but you must get a ticket.
DTLA-Celebrate Las Posadas at Olvera Street.  Las Posadas is a celebration when Mary and Joseph were looking for a room at the Inn but found none.  Follow a candlelit precession complete with Mary, Joseph and a donkey.  Sing Christmas carols and piñatas.
DTLA-FIGat7TH has their Friday party waiting for you.  With all the hustle and bustle of the season, it’s nice to let your hair down after a long work week.  Subsuelo will be preforming, bring your dancing shoes.  Event is free.
Hollywood- The Red Dragon proudly presents The Gift of the Magi.  This wonderful play brings together the meaning of the season.  This is a pay-what-you-can-show.
South Pasadena-Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s wonderful works are having a tribute show in their honor at Cookies & Cream.  Come and see what local artists have rendered.  Event is free.
West Hollywood- Need a night out that won’t break the bank.  The Bar Lubitsch wants you to have a good, free time on them and laugh while you do it.  A totally free comedy show featuring some of the industry’s best comic minds.
Beverly Hills-Enjoy the changing of the seasons with the Winter Solstice Hike.  This moderate hike with leave you breathless with the beauty of nature and the heavens above.  Watch as the sun sets on fall and with the night rises winter.  Event is free.
Burbank- LeVar Burton is having a book signing.  Geeks rejoice!  Jordy will be signing his new book children’s book at Barnes & Noble.  Merry Christmas to all.
DTLA-Start the day with a short walk and some knowledge with the LA River Bird Walk.  Brush up on your aviary knowledge with a naturalist and get some exercise in the process.  Event is free.
Glendale- Travel back to Victorian times with a candle light tour of a Victorian home at Christmas presented by the Glendale Historical Society.  Enjoy the obeisance of candlelight as you are delighted with refreshments and music of the era.  $5 donation is suggested.
Griffith Park-Looking for something to grow on you?  Try gardening.  The community garden at the Mt. Washington campus is looking for a few green thumbs.  Come on down.  Event is free.
Thousand Oaks-If you can’t get enough of Santa then you need to come to SantaCon.  The Tipsy Goat is holding this event for its augural run.  Spread the holiday cheer as you indulge in all things Big Guy in Red.  Event is free.
West LA- Pop up shops are all the rage.  The Craft & Folk Art Museum is ready to follow trend.  Stop on by for The Egg & The Eye Pop-Up.  Find unique gifts and see egg dishes from around the world.  Event is free.

Beverly Hills-Ever wonder how the native people of the land survived without modern conveniences? Walk a mile in their moccasins, literally, with the Native Ways hike. Take an easy stroll through the everyday life of the Chumash tribe.  Event is free.
Glendale- Glendale City Church is proud to present Handel’s Messiah.  This classic piece it sure to warm the hearts of the scroogeiest Scrooge.  Event is free.
Hollywood- Come as a family and make greeting cards for the holidays.  Barnsdall Park is the place where the fun takes place.  Enjoy making crafts together for free.
Universal City-CityWalk and the Chabad of the Valley are celebrating the 6th night of Hanukkah. Come and learn about the festival of lights and enjoy a concert.  Event is free.
Valencia-Greyhound Bus Company turns 100 this year and what better way to celebrate then with a mobile tour.  Six Flag Magic Mountain is the host of this event which features busses throughout the years.  Event is free.

WED 12/24/14

DTLA- It’s the 55th Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration.  Come on down to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to celebrate in song.  This festive party combines all sorts of cultures.  Enjoy the sounds of the season before it’s over.  Event is free.
DTLA-Before the craziness of the day gets to you take the kids and yourself outside for a walk and learn about the River Life. Walk and talk with a ranger as you take an easy stroll along the LA River. You won’t even miss nap time.  Event is free.
Pasadena-It’s not too late to get your picture taken with Santa.  The One Colorado Courtyard is waiting for you.  While you are there, drop off your letter for Santa.  Boom.  Two things off your list of things to do.  You’re welcome

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
DTLA-If your heart is in the giving mood.  Please help The Midnight Mission by serving meals to the less fortunate.  Bring the joy to other this season by giving your time.  The event is life changing.
West Hollywood- Are you a loner on Christmas? Well Rock and Reilly’s is your solution for a hum-drum day.  The best part is that it’s free and you get to come in your PJ’s.  How cool is that?  Merry Christmas to all.

FRI 12/26/14

DTLA-There is nothing more refreshing after a nice holiday than to take a hike.  The Santa Monica Mountains are teeming with life including Big Cats.  Bring the whole family for a hike and some knowledge about the struggles of being the big cat on the mountain.  Event is free.

SAT 12/27/14

Griffith Park-Come and discover who Gene Autry was.  There will be a double feature of his cinema work, Sunset in Wyoming and The Cowboy and the Indians.  Event is free and for all ages.
Griffith Park-The Griffith Observatory is having a Public Star Party.  Bring the whole family to look at the sky.  The Los Angeles Astronomical Society will help you look at the constellations with their super-duper equipment.  Event is free.
South LA-The holidays are not over, it’s Kwanzaa time.  The place to be is Leimert Park Village for the festival and block parade.  Enjoy food, arts and crafts and a health screening. Event is free.

SUN 12/28/14

Burbank-Not ready to say goodbye to the Christmas season?  The Rink in downtown Burbank has you covered.  Skate to your heart’s delight for $10.  It’s still the season for winter fun.
DTLA-It’s not too late to enjoy ice skating in Pershing Square.  Skate among the skyscrapers as you glide on the ice and your cares melt away.  $9 to skate plus lots of free activities.
