It’s the season of giving and there are many programs here in the San Fernando Valley to spread that holiday cheer. As you may know very well, there are many families that struggle to provide their family with a nice holiday meal, and their children with that special toy. The Adopt-a-Family Programs in Los Angeles County below are dedicated to making sure everyone shares in the holiday spirit.
L.A. County DPSS Adopt-a-Family Program – Sponsors are provided with the “adoptee’s” contact information along with the “wish list” of requested items. These items range from grocery items, clothing, gift certificates, or toy requests. There are many ways to participate in this program, visit the website for more details.
Toys for Tots – Bring unwrapped toys to one of the many drop-off locations throughout the valley. Toys for Tots’ objective is to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas. To contribute to better communities, visit their website.
Spark of Love Toy Drive – The Spark of Love toy drive has been helping to give children gifts for the holiday season for over 20 years. Drop off unwrapped toys and sports equipment to local fire stations in Los Angeles County.
The MEND Christmas Program – Help make this holiday season very merry for families in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. You will be connected with needy families during the season of giving. You can participate in the full adoption program or choose one or more related holiday volunteer opportunities.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Toy Donation – While our kids are at home waiting for Santa to visit, there are many children spending the holidays in the hospital. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles uses your donation to make their patients smile and join in on the holiday spirit. They accept toy donations, Gift Cards, and any of the many items listed on their website.
Northeast Valley Health Corporation – If the holidays send you into a spin and you don’t have time to pick out a toy or sponsor a family, the Northeast Valley Health Corporation has a goal of raising $1 million to equip and furnish the Adult Wellness Center and a brand new Teen Health Center. These centers will expand the quality of healthcare for the underserved residents of the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley.
Councilmember Paul Krekorian’s Holiday Food & Toy Drive – Thursday, Dec 8th, the First Christian Church in Studio City will be hosting a food and toy drive to benefit people in need across Council District 2. Bring an unwrapped new toy and/or non-perishable food items, and they will be providing you with free coffee and pastries to enjoy with the Councilmember.
13th Annual Motor4Toys Charitable Exotic Car Show – Their mission is to bring the motorsport community together for the holidays to collect as many toys as possible for the less fortunate children. This event is FREE, all they ask is that each guest bring along at least one new, unwrapped toy valued over $10. Sunday, December 4th from 6:30am – noon in the Warner Center.
Holiday Animal Shelter Drive – If people aren’t your thing and those adorable, little furry bundles of love melt your heart, consider donating to the Holiday Animal Shelter Drive. They are accepting animal toys, treats, beds, cots, cat scratchers, climbers, and other items for Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits. They will be accepting donations until December 5th, see their website for the many locations in the San Fernando Valley.
