The American Red Cross recently issued an emergency call for eligible people to donate blood. Individuals of any blood type are requested to come one of their locations to help out.
According to the San Fernando Sun, “about 450 fewer blood drives were organized by businesses and other community groups during the July 4 holiday period than during a typical week” across the country. That’s approximately “17,000 fewer blood donations than needed for patients in a single week.”
We may be past the holiday now, but blood donations are always needed. And it’s a great idea to keep in mind that there are times when donation numbers can go down, and they are when donations can matter most.
Taking part in blood drives is a great way to help out in your community. We never know when we or one of our loved ones will be in need, just like everyone else.
