“This, then, is the state of the union:  free and restless, growing and full of hope.  So it was in the beginning.  So it shall always be, while God is willing, and we are strong enough to keep the faith.”  ~Lyndon B. Johnson

I have a friend in a military family who posted on Facebook the other day a reminder.  I’m not quoting specifically, but the gist was, “It is INDEPENDENCE DAY. Not July the 4th.  We celebrate the holiday because of what happened, not because of the date.”  Thought provoking.  I hadn’t really paid attention to how many times I said July the 4th over Independence Day.  But I was definitely guilty.  Even Cadillac Cat had celebratory PJs that said I heart the 4th of July.

So I suppose what I’m getting at is this Independence Day I’m making a conscientious effort to use the phrase.  So eat some potato salad. Be careful with the fireworks.  Drink responsibility.  And enjoy your Independence Day.
