Finish February strong with some fun and affordable activities here in un-seasonably sunny So-Cal!  Whether you head out with the fam, your furry friends or the one you love, here are a few ideas to help you make the most of your un-wintery weekends!

Fri Feb 19th

DTLA – Indulge in some fun this weekend with works by some of LA’s finest up-and-coming artists AND enjoy free chocolate.  Hosted by KGB Studios, KGB Studios this art show meets sweet treats is sure to be a good time by all! The event starts at 7pm and tickets are $10-$15.
North Hollywood – If money seems to be in your pocket one moment, and the next you’re feeling pinched, perhaps the seminar Money Matters will be speaking to you.  This will teach the basics on saving and investing.
Northridge – I won’t lie, it’s been years since I’ve read Antigone in high school. But all the more reason to go see CSUN’s play, right?  Feel cultured.  Get your Greek on.

Sat Feb 20th

DTLA – With so many New York Transplants here in LA, it was about time the two blend as one!  Head out to LA’s Artist District for a little Artist & Fleas !  This Brooklyn-born craft market meets LA food scene!
Encino – Yeah mon.  Send your teen to the Encino-Tarzana Library for a steel drum concert given by Joseph Peck.  It’s sure to be grooving!
Granada Hills – If you’re feeling more presidential coming off the holiday weekend, then perhaps Granada Hills Library is the place to be.  The Presidents Day Program will be a family friendly event.
Northridge – if you want to get in on some Black History Month action, then CSUN might be the place to go.  Check out their Haiti International Film Festival.  You can combine civic deeds with popcorn. Win.
Oak Park – MRT and Trash Free Earth are working to protect our streams and creeks of the Malibu Creek Watershed.  Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help improve our environment!
Pasadena – Continue the celebration of Black History Month with the 34th ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY PARADE & FESTIVAL .  Enjoy food, activities, music and more!
Santa MonicaThe Santa Monica History Museum is inviting families to enjoy their free hands on History workshop.  This Saturday learn more about African American History, with age appropriate lessons in the gallery and crafts.
San Marino – The Huntington intends to throw one bash of the year with their Chinese New Year two day event.  The show will be no holds barred with music, lion dancers, martial arts displays, and more.
Santa Monica – When the ocean is in your backyard, you just have to take advantage of it!  The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is kicking off their Whale of a Weekend event with their celebration of the annual migration of the Pacific Gray Whale.  Learn all about these amazing marine animals.
Studio City – Embrace your inner wildling by heading to Franklin Canyon Ranch for the Unleash Yourself In Nature Hike.  Beginners are welcome.
West LAChildren’s Book World introduces children’s author, Bethanie Deeney Murguia and her new book, Cockatoo, Too.  Enjoy hearing the author tell her story with bright illustrations and a sing along!

Sun Feb 21st

Reseda – If you haven’t had the opportunity to catch it, then maybe you will appreciate the free moving Everest, showing at the West Valley Library.  Its certain that the world’s tallest mountain would have some sense of adventure – and suspense.
San Marino – The Crowell Public Library will be holding an Opera Talk event.  Free to the public, this event allows adults and children to learn music history and hear some amazing performers sing classical opera.
Studio City – Calling all cute little doggies and their guardians!  Join in on the Petite Pup Playdate! This little dog party has a 30 lb maxium and boasts snacks, beverages and a chance for your little one to make new friends!
Studio City – Or if howling at the moon is more your thing, join a group at Franklin Canyon for a moderately strenuous hike during the Almost a Full Moon hike.  Enjoy a warm evening and get your fitness to boot!

Fri Feb 26th

DTLA – Lincoln Heights Library will be hosting a free showing of the film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel, The Help.  This all-star cast featuring Viola Davis and Emma stone is an inspirational story about unlikely inter-racial friendships in a dangerous and challenging time in our country’s history.

Sat Feb 27th

Beverly Hills – For those of you who’re entertainment gurus that may need to bulk up on those documentaries of the past year, then you’re in luck. DocuDayLA will run back to back screenings of every single feature & short documentary up for the golden guy.
Burbank – If it’s hard to tear that handle bar out of your hands, then grab your set of your wheels and head to Valley Park for Scooter Mania. Four wheels are the way to go!
Hollywood – The Oscars are almost here and what better way to gear up than attend a presentation by the Art Directors Guild and Set Decorators Society of America.  The Art of Production Design presentation will feature a panel of this year’s nominees in Production and Set Design.  And the statue goes to…..
Granada Hills – Feel the rhythm with Kimberly Miguel Mullen as she holds an interactive AfroBrazilian Dance performance at the Granada Hills Public Library through music, dance, and storytelling.
Mid-Wilshire –  Join comedian Kevin Hart and Rally Health for a free health fair to help SoCal residents learn how some of the simplest lifestyle changes can make biggest impact in their overall health!  Enjoy learning about the benefits of activity and diet and overall wellbeing.
Studio City – it’s the last Saturday of the month – and you know what that means? Time for the monthly Studio City Library Book Sale!  Come stock up and support the Friends of the Public Library’s cause.
West LA – Children’s  Book World presents a Puppet Theatre event with Ilene Cohen and her puppet friend Woody perform their fun songs and stories! Ages 3 to 7 are free!

Sun Feb 28th

Burbank – Get in touch with nature and learn all about our local wild animals at the Wild Animals Walk at Stough Canyon Nature Center.  This monthly walk is a great one to bring the kiddos and set forth into ‘areas unknown’.
Hollywood – Mingle with the stars….the stars in the sky that is!  Griffith Observatory is always free to the public and offers a wide range of activities, events, exhibits and spectacular LA views.  Fun for the entire family!
Hollywood – Get your organic on at the Hollywood Farmers Market.  In the heart of Tinsel Town, this market boasts some of the best local produce, food and natural products in the area.
