Fri January 11th
NORTHRIDGE: Huge Kids Sale – Valley Kids Consignment – While it’s FREE to attend, you’ll want to bring your wallet along to pick up some great deals. This community event is where families come together to sell their gently used items for newborns up to teens and maternity clothes for mom. Approx. 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
TORRANCE: Friday Fun @ Madrona Marsh Nature Center – Bring your preschoolers to the marsh for their FREE weekly hands-on program. Each week’s activity “emphasizes respect for all living things and prepares the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet.” Pre-registration is required; limited to first 20 people to sign up. 10 a.m. – noon.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD: FREE Dance Day at Evolution Dance Studios – Get down with your bad self during Dance Day, featuring belly dancing, hip hop, African, contemporary, and more. There will be professional instructors, DJs, and vendors. Space is limited, so contact them ahead of time to make sure you can get the class you want.
HOLLYWOOD: The Shyamalan-A-Thon – Egyptian Theatre – If you’re a cinephile and love director M. Night Shyamalan’s movies, you won’t want to miss this chance for the FREE triple feature screening (RSVP required to be entered for tickets). The films include Shyamalan’s “Eastrail 177” trilogy, “Unbreakable,” “Split,” and an advanced screening of “Glass.” Arrive early, as lines form at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 3 p.m. First come, first served to RSVP

Friday January 18th
BURBANK: Circus Vargus – Take your family and run away with the circus! Become a kid again as you marvel at amazing acrobats, flying trapeze artists, contortionists, daredevils, comedians, jugglers, and more. Come 30 minutes early for an interactive pre-show where you can mingle with the circus stars. Budget to premium tickets available. Kids under 2 years old get free admission! More dates are available.
GLENDALE: Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers on Assignment Exhibition – Forest Lawn Museum – National Geographic organized this exhibition of 11 award-winning female photojournalists. Photography includes images focusing on wildlife as well as social issues. Be aware, some photography includes mature content. The museum is located in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. While there, check out the marble statuary throughout the park – these pieces make the memorial park an outdoor museum in its own right.
Saturday January 19th
VAN NUYS/LAKE BALBOA: FREE Community CPR/AED Training Class for Adults, Pediatric, and Infants – The Flyaway – This FREE first aid training class is hosted by the Health & Public Safety Committee of the Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council. Also available for special pricing is Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. Reservations are required. 10 am – 12:30 pm.
SANTA MONICA: Annual Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend Concert – SGI-USA World Peace Ikeda Auditorium – The Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra presents their FREE annual concert celebrating Dr. King. No reservations required. 2 – 4 p.m.
Sunday January 20th
LOS ANGELES: Sally Mann: A Thousand Crossings Exhibition – Getty Center – This photography exhibition is artist Sally Mann’s reflections on how the American South (where she grew up) has shaped her work. Many of the photographs haven’t been shown before. Leave the kids with the sitter and experience this powerful and provocative collection. Continues through Feb. 10. FREE admission to the museum.
Monday January 21th
LOS ANGELES: SoCalMoms Community Play Day – Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center – Take the kids to the annual MLK Play Day and have fun with lots of activities during this FREE event. 10 a.m. – noon.
NATIONAL PARKS: It’s FREE National Park Day! Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our beautiful parks across the nation. Please check the official website for information regarding the parks and the federal government shutdown.
