As we wrap up the month of May, summer gets ready to kick into high gear. Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have served and continue to serve our great country….as well as to take time with our family and friends to enjoy each other’s company.  Take a look at some of the fun things in your neck of the woods!

Fri May 20th

Encino –  The Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival is being held at the Laemmle Town Center in Encino.    Experience the beauty and community connection of the Jewish heritage through film.The festival runs Friday and Saturday.

Burbank –  Circus Vargas is coming to Burbank with their new show called Illuminous.  This world premiere show is a high energy extravaganza that illuminates the wonders of modern life. There will even be an interactive pre-show 30 minutes before each performance.

Griffith Park-Autry Museum –   Head over to the Autry for The Odd Market.  This craft bazaar is filled with wonders like live music, shopping, food and so much more!
Select museum galleries will be open from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Hollywood –  Check out Sci-Fi Fest LA. This first-of-its-kind festival has two rotating evenings of professionally produced, 15 minute sci-fi plays.  These live performances are on the ACME Theatre in Hollywood.  Full details at

Hollywood – Head out to the bright lights of Hollywood for their STREET & Contemporary Art Group Show.  This event features the street art and various works of today’s hottest LA artists.

North Hollywood –  Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group presents their rendition of Shakespeare’s As You Like It.  Directed by Denise Devin, this classic play is for ages 15 and up!

Santa Monica –  The Santa Monica’s Creative Art Studio presents Tangled Fairy Tales.  Join the cast as they take you on a wild adventure; bringing your favorite storybook princesses out of their stories and into a brand new one!  Twists and turns are guaranteed with this fun night!

Canoga Park –   Local farmers and activists have organized the March for Organics in Canoga Park.  This peaceful gathering is to stand up for GMO free foods and more support for local growers as well as the push for healthier foods in our homes.
The event will be “family friendly”, legal, and peaceful. All laws, and police directives will be observed..Canoga Park – Promote healthy organic alternatives by shopping at the  Main Street Canoga Park Farmers MarketDWTN – Head out to Photocon LA this weekend!  This two day celebration of all things photography and video is one you can’t miss!  Over 50 of the industry’s top brands in Photography and Video will be on hand to show you new technology, new techniques and everything that is shutterbug related.

DWTN – Exposition Park – Get your creepy crawly on at The Natural History Museum’s 30th Annual Bug Fair!  They will be celebrating all month long, with a fun-filled weekend kick off.  This two day even allows kids of all ages to learn about the biology and benefits to some of the most interesting insects.  Even get your taste buds ready for a little bug cuisine!

DWTN – Grand Park is the place to be for some fabulous art!  The Jardin-DelArte is an outdoor salon of local artists showing off their spring best!  As an added bonus, stay for a special dance performance and presentation on artist Frida Kahlo.

DWTN – LA Convention Center – Calling all sisters!  Check out the Ultimate Women’s Expo!  Hundreds of vendors from shoes to accessories, massage and spa therapies, decadent desserts and all the self-help guru  info you can handle.  This is the perfect day to leave the kids with Daddy and head out for the biggest gal’s day…Eh-Vuuur!

Fairfax/The Grove– Hey all you Dads out there!  Grab Daddy’s little girl and head out to celebrate The National Daddy Daughter Tea day!  This free event is an outreach effort to encourage fathers to invest quality one-on-one time with their daughters and help them have a better connection with them; strengthening family bonds and sending a positive message.

Hollywood –  Hollywood is the place to be to get one heck of a  history lesson!  Check out The Drunk History of Hollywood Tour!  This guided tour takes you to the heart of Tinseltown making a few stops at some local watering holes to get in the spirit!  Grab some friends for a little adult fun!

LA Fairfax District – Get your antiques fix at The K Vintage Pop-Up Boutique.   This vintage collectible event happens every Saturday and Sunday.

Malibu – Leo Carrillo State Beach – The Mountain Restoration Trust is holding a Leo Carrillo Beach Needs Help event.  Help them to restore habitat for the Southern California Steelhead Trout.  Parking is free, so help the habitat and stay to enjoy its bountiful beauty.

Malibu – Topanga State Park – The Mountain Restoration Trust is conducting a day of habitat health with the Topanga State Park Habitat Restoration project.  Help restore the nature eco-system within the park itself by removing non-native and invasive plants.

North Hollywood – A day not to be missed!  Get your happy on at the Not Your Average Block Party.  Tons of vendors, food trucks and some of the hottest DJ’s filling the air with sweet jams.  Enjoy lawn games, specialty photo booth and insane fun!

North Hollywood – Go organic and never look back at the North Hollywood Arts District Farmers Market.

Oxnard – Grab the family, load up the car and head out to the coast for the California Strawberry Festival.  In its 33rd year, this festival boasts all things red with strawberry inspired arts and crafts, contests and all the yummy strawberry desserts and dishes you can handle!  All proceeds go to benefit more than 20 SoCal charities.

Pasadena – Discover the Spring Awakening Festival.  This two day festival is an educational event that focuses on Native American cultural awareness and the preservation of California wildlife.   Enjoy Native American culture through native artisans, drum circle dances and so much more.

San Fernando – Let Divine Specialties show you the basics of making cake pops with a Cake Poppin 101 class!  Basic tips, tricks and all the melty joys of chocolate await you.  All supplies are included and special pricing will be offered for supplies purchased on site.  Make your cake pops the envy of the pot-luck!

Sepulveda Pass – Getty Museum – The Getty is offering a tour of three hand painted, full-scale replica caves contructed on the plaza of the Getty Center.  The Buddhist art exhibition, Cave Temples of Dunhuang Buddhist Art On China’s Silk Road are rare works of art from the Mogoa Caves and a virtual immersive experience of the Dunhuang site.

Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys –   This festival is deeply rooted in ancient Indian tradition.  The Holi Festival of Colors 2016 is an amazing festival of locally-sourced vegetarian cuisine, yoga, dancing, live music and the color festival itself where you get to shower yourself and others in vibrant colors.

Griffith Park – Autry Muesum –  Yours truly, Chelsea Robinson will be hosting a booth at the The Great Big Family Playday being held at the Autry Museum in Griffith Park.  This will be the biggest family party of the summer featuring live entertainment all day, all-age activities, food, product samples and plenty more!  Hear Lisa Loeb sing tunes from her new children’s album!

Studio City – Wanna do a little star gazing during the day?  Head out to the Studio City Farmers Market and see who buys organic..just…!

Fri May 27th

Calabasas – The Pumpkin Patch Story Time is a half hour program offered by the Calabasas Public Library.  Kids can enjoy their favorite stories read and sung by the library’s Librarian.

Santa Monica – Head out to Chic Studios for the LA Free Mastering Makeup for Instagram Workshop.  The event includes social media posts and giveaways, make up demos and a technique Q&A.

Sat May 28th

Los FelizThe City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery present their annual COLA premiere art event featuring new works from a dozen handpicked local artists.

Simi Valley – It might be a little bit of a journey, but the Simi Valley Cajun Blues Festival gaur-un-tees you will have an amazing time at their two day event.  Enjoy authentic delights from the Big Easy along with Cajun and Zydeco music, dancing and much more!

Northridge – Ooopa!  Prepare yourself take a bite out of life at the Valley Greek Festival.  This full on Greek fest will feature a Greek Market with amazing vendors, delicious food and live Greek Music and dancing!

Topanga – Time to chill and connect with others at the annual Topanga Days; a fundraising event to support Topanga’s Community House.  Listen to sweet jam band magic as you peruse the wares of local artisans and amazing food purveyors and plenty of fun and games for the kids

Encino – Make the most out of your 3 day weekend at the Encino Memorial Day Weekend Dance Party!  Starting at 8pm on Sunday, listen to the hottest music, dance and dine the night away with your friends!
